We have been doing lots of counting activities. Rote counting forwards and backwards, counting collections of objects and recognising dice patterns quickly.
Recognising dice patterns encourages children to 'subitise', that is recognise small groups of dots or objects and know how many there are without actually counting. Then the children will be encouraged to count on from the 'subitised' dots rather than go back to one and count all again.
Here is a trailer about a game we like to play on the iPad.

The children enjoyed making collections and talking with each other about what they picked.
