We had to buy our food from the waitresses and give them the correct money. Then we made a butterfly shaped sandwich.
Thank you Kristie, Sonia and Ayako for helping us.
I was pleased that everyone had such lovely manners.

Hello and welcome to our site. Please visit our blog posts to see what is happening in our classroom!
Our classroom turned into a cafe yesterday. We had to buy our food from the waitresses and give them the correct money. Then we made a butterfly shaped sandwich. Thank you Kristie, Sonia and Ayako for helping us. I was pleased that everyone had such lovely manners. Mrs Badham

I came to school last Monday to find all these insects all over the table! They looked so cool under the Christmas tree! I got a message from Mrs Fuller to say the butterfly had emerged. I'm sorry I missed it but I really liked looking at your pictures. What did it feel like on your finger? After we read the story "My Garden" the children designed Toad's Garden. Here are just a few of their designs. You can see flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and water features Two of my very favourite story book characters are Frog and Toad! Today we started to read the book "Frog and Toad Together" by Arnold Lobel. The first story we read was "The Garden". I hope you enjoy watching and listening to it. Who is your favourite Frog or Toad and why? I like Frog because he is always helpful and kind to Toad, but I like Toad because he is so funny. I can't decide who is my favourite.
Yesterday Mrs Badham found this egg on a milkweed plant near Stanwell Park.
Do you know what it is? It is in our classroom and we are going to watch it and see what happens. From the official website: International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe. Listen to the story "The Dot" again After listening to the story we talked about working together and never giving up. We worked with our Year 6 buddy to make lots of dots in warm and cool colours. THEN the Year 6 students used all our dots to make 3 enormous dots. These are in the Library and look wonderful. We had a wonderful day today. After the concert our visitors came to visit our classroom. It was wonderful to see the children reading to their visitors and showing them all the wonderful things they have done at school. Thank you to everyone who came. There are more photos on the HPS News Blog. KF have been talking about their birthdays as part of their 'This Is Me' HSIE unit. They wrote about their birthday and their reading was recorded using the 'Explain Everything' iPad app. They also drew a lovely picture for their presentation. To answer a question such as, “I have 9 and I remove 3, how many remain?” the student says “Nine, …eight, seven, six,… six!”. This strategy is described as counting down from a number. A similar use of counting backwards, or counting down, often appears when students solve questions where the subtrahend (the number being taken away) is missing. When responding to the question, “ I have 9 and I remove some, 6 remain. How many did I remove?” the student knows in advance the number to which he or she is counting. The student may say, “Nine,…eight, seven, six,…three!” This strategy requires keeping track of the backward counts and is described as counting down to a number. Activities to help with counting down The children need to count down quickly. This is a good game to play. See how quickly you can count back 2. This is the old favourite "Ten Green Bottles", but you can change it to any number. Great fun to sing together!
This is one of my favourite books to read to children. When I read it to KF they liked it too and laughed a lot. Which part did you find funny? This week we have been reading books and listening to Mrs Badham or Mrs Fuller read us stories. Each day we earned 30 points for the Read-a-thon. That's 150 points for the week! For more information scroll down on the P and C's web page. PS. The camera was flat and a few children did not get their photo taken. Sorry. |
