Thank you to all our visitors who came to visit KF classroom for Education Week. The children enjoyed showing their books, playing maths games and reading to their visitors. The first few photos are of KF getting ready and practising their "familiar reading". KF students were the photographers. They did a wonderful job, but may have accidentally missed a few of the visitors. The children like to write whilst Mrs Fuller works with small groups of children in the L3 'engine room'. Look at this wonderful writing the students did all by themselves. 1. My Imaginary Bedroom We read the book "There's a Sea in my Bedroom" and then talked about where we would like to have our imaginary bedroom. Click below to read all about them. 2. Grug Meets Sam and Bingo We read lots of books about Sam and Bingo for our home reading. We pretended that Grug went to visit Sam and Bingo one day. Read all the places they went and things they did in the book below. Great work KF! 3. Solving Problems Mrs Badham knows how well the KF children can solve problems. So this week when Mrs Wishy Washy had a visit from Grug, she had a problem and Mrs Wishy Washy asked if KF could help her solve it!
Mrs Wishy Washy has only 1 washing tub for washing her animals. Then one day she had a visit from Grug, Cara and Snoot. Suddenly she had 6 creatures to wash - the pig, the duck, the cow, Grug, Snoot and Cara. Mrs Wishy Washy didn't know what to do. Then she thought she would ask her neighbour for some more tubs. How many will she have to get? KF worked out she needed 5 more tubs. We checked our answer by drawing the tubs and the creatures. Now Mrs Wishy Washy has 6 tubs to wash the animals. How many more tubs would she need if she wants to wash 10 animals? Our Kinder students had a wonderful day when they visited the Kinder students at Coledale Public School. Our students participated in many educational activities, but also had a fabulous time meeting new friends and thoroughly enjoyed every part of the day. You will be very pleased to hear that Grug also joined them for this special visit! Thanks to Mrs Potter (Coledale) and the teachers from Helensburgh for organising such a special day for all the students. Thanks to all the parents who also helped in so many ways to ensure the day was such a success. A very special thank you to Lynn, Lisa and Scott who are part of the Coledale community, for organising the wonderful touch pool and hands-on display. The iMovie below, which was put together by Mrs Dowling, hopefully gives you an idea of how much our students enjoyed their day. Below that are some more photos of KF students. This week Grug went to Zumba and he saw some of his friends from KF there too. I wonder if he joined in and did some exercise?
Mrs Fuller and Mrs Badham both like this song. Do you? It will help you learn to match capital letters to the lower case letters. Which is your favourite letter? Why is it your favourite?
Grug had some more adventures on the weekend. He went to visit some friends from KF, went to visit an ambulance station and did a painting. I wonder where he will go next? On Friday Ms Lewis showed the children how to make Snoot using clay and small sticks from the school playground. On Monday Snoot said a big hello to Grug. Grug is going to make a book of the things he can do. Please come back often to check as more photos will be added. Grug has been having a lot of fun visiting KF students. He has been riding a bike, jumping on the trampoline and even been parachuting. I wonder what he will do next?
We hope everyone enjoyed Mother's Day. Your children loved making you your card! Thank you to Mrs Fuller for organising these. We have been doing lots of counting activities. Rote counting forwards and backwards, counting collections of objects and recognising dice patterns quickly. Recognising dice patterns encourages children to 'subitise', that is recognise small groups of dots or objects and know how many there are without actually counting. Then the children will be encouraged to count on from the 'subitised' dots rather than go back to one and count all again. Here is a trailer about a game we like to play on the iPad. The children enjoyed making collections and talking with each other about what they picked. KF worked very hard in RFF today finding healthy food for the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar'. This was part of their work this term on healthy choices. Please take a look at their work in the slideshow below. The photos can also be found on the 'Latest Photos' page on our school website. Thank you for making this Mrs Dowling!
